E.ON has unveiled further details of the biomass-fired energy plant it plans to build near Sheffield. Construction on the GBP 120 million renewable power station at Blackburn Meadows will begin at the end of November and will generate up to 30MW, enough to power 40,000 homes, by converting recycled waste wood into electricity. E.ON will use UK-sourced waste wood to power the plant and will attempt to use local companies to build the facility. The company expects that the site will create around 30 full-time jobs once operational in mid-2014.
