SIPOS has applied for an SIPOS 5 Flash in The Netherlands. This action illustrates how the company’s variable speed actuation technology can be used to aid people passing through a weir using canoes or kayaks. Typically used as a valve control solution for water/waste water plants and in the power sector, SIPOS actuators are also used in weir applications, as seen at Warffum, a canal that runs near a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. The water level at Warffum is normally controlled via the SIPOS actuator running at slow speed. However, if anyone needs to pass through the weir in a canoe or kayak, SIPOS’ actuator solution enables them to press a button to operate the weir at high speed which enables the paddlers to pass through. Prior to implementation of SIPOS’s solution, the Dutch water sport enthusiasts at Warffum had to get out of the water to walk past the weir.
