SITECNA SRL, an Italian manufacturer of devices for distribution and decompression of compressed air and gas has recently obtained SIL certification in accordance with IEC 61508. SIL (Safety Integrity Level) is a measurement of performance required for a safety instrumented function and awarded by TUV. Ratings range from SIL1 (lowest) to SIL4 (highest).
Engineering for critical applications can require a high overall rate of Safety Integrity Level for an entire installation. In such cases, each individual component contributes to the overall global rating. SITECNA volume-boosters were certified with high Safety Integrity Levels and were thus considered appropriate for the most severe requirements in pneumatic control circuits for driving actuators and controlling valves.
