SKF introduces robust solar linear actuator

SKF has released a solar linear actuator that is designed to increase the accuracy and efficiency of tracking the sun while delivering lower maintenance costs than alternative products.

Designed to meet the demanding requirements of the solar power industry, the SKF solar linear actuator can be used with photovoltaics, concentrating photovoltaics or concentrating solar power systems.

The solar linear actuator integrates a screw with a gearbox, a motor, bearings, lubricant, seals, limit switches, hall sensors and a circuit board, all protected in an IP65 sealed housing.

The actuator is said to be robust in design and can therefore increase the level of reliability and drive protection. Higher static-to-dynamic load ratios permit solar power generation during high wind conditions, achieving greater positioning accuracy and exhibiting limited backlash for consistent tracking. Designed to provide a 20-year service life, the actuator is virtually maintenance free, requiring no downtime for part changes or relubrication.
