Neste Jacobs and SOCAR, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic have signed an agreement, where Neste Jacobs will act as Project Management Consultant (PMC) and co-ordinate third party inspections for SOCAR in constructing a greenfield ammonia-urea fertilizer plant in Sumgayit, Azerbaijan.
Once the new ammonia-urea complex is up and running, it will produce 1,200 tons of ammonia and 2,000 tons of urea per day. This nitrogen fertilizer project belongs to the State Program on Reliable Food Supply of Population in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2008–2015. The works under the EPC Contract for the plant project are estimated at approximately EUR 622M.
Neste Jacobs will form and mobilise a PMC Team firstly to Seoul, South Korea to supervise the EPC contractor on behalf of SOCAR. When the construction phase begins, the team will be mobilised to Baku, Azerbaijan. “Neste Jacobs is one of the few professional companies in the world who are able to provide such services on competitive basis and they convinced us that their solutions are just what we need”, says Khayal Jafarov, Ammonia-Urea Complex Director of SOCAR. “Also Neste Jacobs’ great expertise and competitive edge in providing internationally recognised project management solutions and services played a key role in the final decision making.”
