Helios Technologies, Inc. (HLIO), a global leader in highly engineered motion control and electronic controls technology, announced that its operating company, Sun Hydraulics, has received a 2025 LEAP (Leadership in Engineering Achievement Program) Gold Award in the Motion Control category for its innovative ENERGEN™ technology. The LEAP Awards, presented by Design World magazine, recognize the most innovative products and components in the design engineering industry.
ENERGEN™ is a first-of-its-kind hydraulic power-to-electrical power conversion system designed to harvest energy directly from hydraulic flow. As part of Sun’s ecoline™ portfolio of energy-efficient solutions, the technology combines Sun Hydraulics’ proven cartridge valve design with advanced generator technology to deliver improved performance and efficiency in fluid power systems.
The recognition comes at a crucial time as equipment manufacturers and system integrators face growing pressure to improve energy efficiency and reduce total lifecycle costs. Systems equipped with ENERGEN™ provide several key benefits, including higher system efficiency through the capture and conversion of hydraulic energy, reduced wasted heat and bleed flow, and a simplified system design that lowers reliance on external power sources.
ENERGEN™ also offers a clear sustainability advantage by reclaiming energy that would otherwise be wasted, helping users reduce carbon footprints and meet increasingly strict regulatory and customer sustainability requirements.
According to the LEAP Awards announcement, ENERGEN™ also enhances the safety and reliability of electrohydraulic systems. It can operate in parallel with conventional power supplies for sensors and valves, providing built-in system redundancy.
