Tecnimont to build chemical plant in Germany

Tecnimont, part of the Montedison Group, will build of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) facility with an annual capacity of 320,000 tons for Basell Poliolefine GmbH. The new plant will be located at Basell’s main industrial complex in Wesseling, Germany. The contract, which was awarded following an international competitive bidding process, calls for the supply of engineering services, materials and equipment, and includes plant construction and project management. The polyethylene unit, which will employ Basell’s Hostalen technology, is scheduled to start production at the beginning of 2004. The contract, valued at EUR 140 million, represents Basell’s biggest investment to date in a plant that uses this technology.
