Testing fail-safeESD valves

Valves used in ESD and HIPPS fail-safe procedures can get stuck because of sticking effects on the actuator and valves seals in case they are not moved for a long period. When an emergency shutdown is necessary and one of the ESD valves won’t close, extremely dangerous situations can occur. To prevent these situations, the ESD valves must be tested periodically. The Netherlocks FAITH system makes it possible to perform functionality and operability tests on ESD valves during normal operation of the plant and without any production loss. The system is based on the fact that it is cracking the valve and move it for 20 degrees only. The whole system is based on a mechanical principle and can be used in all environments and for all type of actuators without a torque or thrust limitation.
