TRW to close valve plant

TRW Inc. intends to close its engine valve plant, located in Cleveland, by mid-year 2002. The facility has approximately 500 employees, and manufactures valves and valve train components for the automotive, heavy-duty truck and aircraft industries. Plans are to consolidate valve plant operations into existing TRW manufacturing plants. “Throughout the year, auto makers world-wide have been cutting back on the production of new vehicles, closing plants, and seeking price cuts from all suppliers. Now, new uncertainties about our nation’s economy have placed even greater pressure on the industry, and we must make hard decisions,” said John C. Plant, president and chief executive officer, TRW Automotive.
