Anderson Greenwood Crosby, a division of Tyco Valves & Controls, has been awarded a major contract for the supply of safety relief valves for the Shell Bonga Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit. The Bonga Field is located in around 1030 metres water depth some 120km SW of Warri off the coast of Nigeria. The unit will be operated by SNEPCO. A package of pilot-operated and spring-loaded safety relief valves will be supplied to Shell Bonga via contractor Amec Services, for installation on the topsides process module of the FPSO at Amec’s Wallsend facility. The Tyco equipment will then be used to provide over-pressure protection for the process and fire protection systems on the Bonga project. Pilot-operated valves were preferred by the engineers and end user client for high-pressure applications involving gas and/or mixed-phase fluids because it was felt they offered numerous advantages, including ease of maintenance and the ability to check valve set pressure using a field test connection, with the valve still in line.
