UL Solutions Inc. (ULS) has announced a new ECOLOGO certification program for energy and industrial automation equipment, including circuit breakers and safety switches. The program is designed to help manufacturers improve the sustainability profile of industrial products and meet growing stakeholder expectations.
ECOLOGO is a voluntary, multi-attribute, life cycle-based ecolabel that evaluates products and processes for reduced environmental and human health impacts. While already well-known across several consumer product categories, this new certification for energy and industrial automation equipment enables manufacturers to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability through independent evaluation according to UL 2711, the Standard for Sustainability of Energy and Industrial Automation Equipment.
The program assesses products against comprehensive criteria, including materials (use of recycled, bio-based, and responsibly sourced content), manufacturing processes (energy efficiency, waste minimisation, and water use), health and safety (chemical management, reduced toxicity, and hazard mitigation), and product life cycle performance (durability, recyclability, and biodegradability).
The new ECOLOGO certification complements existing programs across sectors such as cleaning products, electronics, personal care, and mineral exploration. ECOLOGO is one of North America’s most respected and longest-running multi-attribute ecolabels, part of the Global Ecolabelling Network’s (GEN) GENICES system, classified as an ISO Type 1 ecolabel, and assessed by the Global Ecolabelling Network. Recognised by governments, retailers, and procurement organisations worldwide, it offers manufacturers a competitive advantage in environmentally conscious markets.
