Valmet will deliver critical valve solutions to Hycamite’s new Customer Sample Facility (CSF) in Kokkola, Finland. The new facility is expected to start operations during the second half of 2024.
“Producing hydrogen through methane splitting requires valves that operate reliably and safely at high temperatures. Additionally, we wanted a partner for the project who has the right expertise and the capability to support the scalability of production. The availability of services close to the facility is also important to us, “says Ville Klaavu, VP, Business Development, Scale-up at Hycamite.
The Customer Sample Facility (CSF) by Hycamite is Europe’s largest methane splitting hydrogen production plant. It produces hydrogen by breaking down methane molecules from natural gas and biogas into their elemental forms of hydrogen and carbon, all without greenhouse gas emissions. The purpose of the facility is to demonstrate the efficiency of the new pyrolysis technology in producing clean hydrogen and high-quality solid carbon on an industrial scale. The clean hydrogen produced in the facility can be used as an industrial raw material or fuel, while the carbon products are suitable for applications such as battery materials.
“Demand for clean hydrogen is increasing and industry pioneers such as Hycamite play a crucial role in scaling up new technologies into commercial use. We are honored to be part of this exciting project. We are building upon our long experience in dealing with hydrogen and methane applications to further develop reliable and efficient flow control technologies for our customers in the industry,” says Ville Kähkönen, Head of Renewable Energy and Gases at Valmet’s Flow Control business line.
