Valve World Asia Conference well in progress

The Valve World Asia Steering Committee came to Shanghai on 5 March to evaluate the response on the Call for Papers and determine the conference programme for the two day Valve World Asia event which will be held in Suzhou, China on 23 and 24 September this year. About 40 paper proposals had been submitted to the organizers out of which the Steering Committee, chaired by Kevin Jiang ( Dow Chemical, China) and co-chaired by Ralph-Harry Klaer ( Bayer, Germany), selected 32 presentations. Topics will range from materials, maintenance, actuation, automation, design, sealing and applications. In addition the committee has invited speakers from major end users both from the West and East to hold key-note presentations on the practical experiences with valves in major projects. Furthermore there will be a workshop programme covering fugitive emissions and procurement and API will organize a training session: Practical Guidelines on purchasing API monogram equipment.
Overall the Steering Committee was pleased with the outcome, in particular with the increasing number of presentations from China and is confident that it will attract a good number of attendees from both China and abroad. Needless to say there will also be a social programme including a welcome reception, lunches, a conference dinner and a partner programme.
It must be great
Following on from the two previous Valve World Asia conferences in Shanghai  in 2005 and 2007 respectively, the next event will be held in Suzhou which is the base for many renowned valve manufacturers. The conference will coincide with the Valve World Asia Expo and the venue will be the Suzhou International Expo Center which is located in the core area of Suzhou Industrial Park ( SIP) and has over 200,000 square meters of exhibition space. The Center also features state-of-the-art conference facilities including simultaneous translation systems. Favourably located at the lake it is just 80 km from the Shanghai Hong Qiao Airport and 120 Km from Pu Dong International Airport from where Valve World will organize a shuttle service. Moreover there are almost 95 trains arriving and departing in the Suzhou Railway station every day including a high speed train (35 minutes) connection with Shanghai.
Furthermore, Suzhou is an ideal place to combine business with pleasure. In Suzhou  the ancient water towns of Zhou Zhuang, Tong Li, Mu Du, Lu Zhi, Jin Xi, Qian Deng and Sheng Zhe are the best preserved examples of a thousand years old life style south of the Yangtze River. The simple and unsophisticated streets, the long canals and water lanes, the meandering rivers, the classic bridges and world famous parks, are all a wonderful portrayal of life in Suzhou Old Town. Furthermore there is a wonderful art museum and a silk museum. So definitely worthwhile a visit or, as TD Lee put it: “I don’t know what paradise looks like, but if it is half as beautiful as Suzhou then it must be great”.
