Valve World will organise an international seminar on CE Marking of Valves as part of the European Legislation and the Pressure Equipment Directive. The Pressure Equipment directive (a European Community law) sets out essential requirements in general terms, which must be met before products can be sold in Europe. Valves that meet the requirements must carry CE Marking. The transitional period will end on 29 May 2002 and valves made after this date and sold in the European community including import must satisfy safety requirements, be assessed for the risk category applicable, be subject to surveillance by a notified body where applicable and carry the CE marking and other information. The valve manufacturer must draw up the technical documentation which gives conformity with the requirements of the directive. Failure to conform with these requirements can lead to prosecution. There is much unclarity and misunderstading within the valve community about the implementation of the PED and CE Marking whilst the deadline of May 2002 is coming closer. Valve World identified an urgent need with both manufacturers, suppliers and users/purchasers for more detailed information. This seminar, held at the at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Maastricht, the Netherlands, on 25–26 September 2001, is designed to fill that need. For more information see please contact Mr Sjef Roymans, Editorial & Conference Director, phone: +31 575 585 286 or e-mail to s.roymans@kci-world.com.
