WVC USA wins Exelon HCVS Project

Weir Valves and Controls USA (WVC USA) has been awarded the fleet contract for hardened containment vent system isolation valves by Exelon Corporation. WVC USA will supply its TRICENTRIC triple offset butterfly valves to the Exelon fleet of affected Mark I and Mark II BWR’s (6 sites) over the next 2 to 3 years.

Mandated by the US NRC, the purpose of this post-Fukushima plant upgrade project is to provide assurance that, during and after a Fukushima-like event, there is sufficient venting capacity to maintain containment integrity and provide for safe plant shutdown. The award was based on a comprehensive evaluation of technical qualifications (valve design, testing, installed base, performance, etc.) and commercial terms.

Tom Winkelmann, president of WVC USA, commented: “We are very proud of our Nuclear Sales team in securing the Exelon order, which came as a result of our multi-disciplinary expertise and sound business execution. This deal has the potential of setting the direction within the nuclear industry over the next three years in terms of technical qualification, safety standards and valve integrity. Orders such as this demonstrate our ability to provide reliable, engineered solutions that meet or exceed our customer’s needs and we look forward to delivering for Exelon over the coming months.”
