650mw power deal

Northern Alternative Energy Inc., through its affiliate, Navitas Energy and Xcel Energy (formerly Northern States Power) has executed power purchase agreements which will result in the installation of 650mw of wind and combustion turbine energy, to be developed at five sites in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. The USD 400 million project includes 100mw of wind energy and 550mw of dispersed generation using combustion turbines in a unique hybrid application. Construction will begin in May 2001 and is expected for completion in phases by December 2001 for the wind energy and June 2002 for the combustion turbines. M. A. Mortenson Company will serve as the project’s EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor.
