Foster Wheeler receives contract for boiler island

A subsidiary of Foster Wheeler’s Global Power Group has been contracted by Elektrobudowa to design, supply and erect a 50MWe (gross megawatt electric) circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) boiler island for the Tychy Heat and Power Station in Poland owned by TAURON Polska Energia. Commercial operation of the new steam generator is scheduled for the middle of 2016.

Foster Wheeler will design and supply the steam generator and auxiliary equipment, and will carry out the erection and commissioning of the boiler island. The steam generator will be designed to burn local Polish bituminous coal. “This award exemplifies TAURON’s continued confidence in Foster Wheeler’s highly reliable and environmentally friendly CFB design”, said Jarosław Mlonka, president and CEO of Foster Wheeler Energia Polska. “Five of our CFB steam generators are currently online at existing TAURON plants, including the 460MWe supercritical CFB steam generator at the Łagisza Power Plant in Poland.”

“We look forward to working with Foster Wheeler on this project and are fully confident in Foster Wheeler’s high quality CFB product and extensive experience in project execution, said Jacek Faltynowicz, Elektrobudowa CEO. “Executing the EPC contract for this new unit at the Tychy Heat and Power Station is a significant step for Elektrobudowa to strengthen our position and capabilities in power projects in Poland.”
