ValvTechnologies director speaks on ESDs

ValvTechnologies Director of Downstream and Specialty Products Barry Hoeffner was invited to present on Emergency Shutdown Valves (ESD) in Severe Service at the seventieth Annual Instrumentation and Automation Symposium for the Process Industries.

Hoeffner provided expert insight on proper valve selection for emergency shutdown valves in severe service applications, defined as state change conditions, elevated/change temperatures and high-pressure. Emergency shutdown valves are among the most important pieces of equipment in modern process operation. Selecting the correct valve and actuator combination for each unique, critical application is required to eliminate the question of system reliability, even during long periods of inactivity.

Hoeffner is responsible for product development, sales and research and development for the ValvTechnologies’ severe service metal-seated ball valves in the refining industry, specialising in coking and gasification. Prior to his 15 years with ValvTechnologies, Hoeffner was a vice president with Baker Performance Chemicals working extensively with corrosion and fouling control in the process industries. Hoeffner’s experience also includes process engineering with ARCO (later Lyondell) assigned as a coker process engineer and later plant inspection. Hoeffner holds a bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma State University.
