Nord Stream 2 almost completed

The final pipe of the two strings of the Nord Stream 2 gasline has been welded into place in the first week of September, according to the operator. Next, the section of the pipe originating from the German shore will be connected to the section from the Danish waters in an above water tie-in.
The USD 11bn-costing Nord Stream 2 is designed as two parallel 48-inch lines. They are roughly 1,200 kilometres long, each starting southwest of St. Petersburg and ending at the German coast at Greifswald. The gas pipelines will have the capacity to transport 55 billion cubic meters of Russian gas a year to the EU, for at least 50 years.
