Ultrapure water (UPW) is water that has been purified to uncommonly stringent specifications. The primary end users of UPW include: semi-conductor, solar photovoltaic, pharmaceutical, power generation and research laboratories. Ultrapure water is used extensively in the semiconductor industry; to rinse the wafer after application of chemicals, to dilute the chemicals themselves, in optics systems, or in the front-end cleaning tools, when the foundation of the integrated circuit is created.
