Metso to modernize Salmisaari power plants

Helsingin Energia is teaming up with Metso to modernize the automation and field instrumentation at its Salmisaari A and B power plants in Helsinki, Finland.
The new automation is set to replace the existing automation system installed in Plant B in 1984 to produce electricity and district heat, as well as the system installed in Plant A in 1986 to produce district heat.

Petrobras’ long-term technological strategy

newsitemSpeaking at the "Global Deepwater Technology Development" panel in Houston, USA, Petrobras' executive manager for production engineering in Exploration & Production, Solange da Silva Guedes highlighted the importance of integrating companies that operate in deepwater oil and gas fields with universities and suppliers for the development of offshore production technology. The panel, with more than 250 attendees, opened the first day of the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the world's biggest event devoted to offshore oil exploration and production.

Rotork selected for control duties

Pipelines carrying products including natural gas from Asian countries traverse Turkey en-route for export to other final destinations or as a source of energy for domestic consumption.
Compressor stations along the route are designed to preserve the pressure level in the networks and transfer the gas for local area consumption.

Nido eyes multi-million barrel potential prospect

Australia-listed Nido Petroleum is preparing to drill a multi-million barrel potential prospect on service contract 63 in the Palawan basin, off the coast of the Philippines.
  Nido and its joint venture partner PNOC Exploration have approved the work plan and budget to drill the Baragatan prospect, with Nido acting as technical operator during the drilling phase.

OCI to provide Celanese with natural gas boilers

Celanese selected Overland Contracting (OCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Black & Veatch, to replace its coal-fired boilers with natural gas-fired boilers at a plant in Virginia. OCI will be providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the project, which is expected to be completed in early 2015.

Emerson’s remote-mount digital valve controller

Emerson Process Management have introduced their Fisher® FIELDVUE™ DVC6205 remote-mount digital valve controller to the market. They state that it proves an ideal solution for applications in which accessibility, extreme temperatures (up to 120°C / 250°F), extreme vibration or confined space make integral mounting difficult or impractical.
