Danish companies to upgrade wastewater facilities

Danish water companies have recently planned to help upgrade the wastewater treatment plant, Glenbard Wastewater Facility, in Chicago, USA. Hereby, the wastewater treatment plant will achieve energy neutrality and thus ensure better outlet quality. The project is part of Water Technology Alliance Chicago, a cooperation between a number of leading Danish water technology manufacturers which is supported with public funds in Denmark. This development and demonstration project will develop, adapt and promote Danish wastewater technology in USA. The project focuses on energy efficient solutions along with reduction of emitted nutrients. In large parts of USA the wastewater treatment plants are large-scale consumers of energy, and the majority of them still do not clean for nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. With a view to tightening of the emission regulations, an opening has been created for unique export opportunities of Danish wastewater technology.

As a part of Water Technology Alliance the project provides opportunities for optimisation of the plant performance such as energy optimisation. During the next few months, Danish water technology companies and American collaborators will work out the final plant design. The plant is planned to be ready in 2019 and will be a unique example for Danish water technology. The project is beneficial for all parties involved, and includes the prospect of large orders to Danish companies.
