BASF Oy (Finland), a subsidiary of the German chemical company BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen, has awarded a lump sum turnkey contract to a consortium, made up of Technip and Rintekno, for the design and construction of a paper coating binder production plant at Hamina, on the southern coast of Finland, about 150km east of Helsinki. Paper coating binder is a chemical additive used in the manufacturing of paper. The plant will have a design capacity of 140,000 tons per year. The total investment is EUR 50 million. Technip/Rintekno’s scope of work entails the detail engineering, procurement, supply of equipment and materials as well as construction. The project will be carried out by the engineering center of Technip in Düsseldorf, Germany, in collaboration with Rintekno Oy, an engineering and construction firm based in Espoo (Helsinki) in which Technip has a 28.6% stake. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2002.
