Germany: BASF boosts polyisobutene

BASF is to increase its production of medium molecular weight polyisobutene (MM PIB), which is marketed worldwide under the Oppanol® trademark. It will increase capacity for MM Oppanol® at its Ludwigshafen site by 6000 tonnes to a total of 18,000 tonnes per year. Work on extending the plant is expected to be completed by the middle of 2007. “BASF will make this investment in response to an increasing demand for Oppanol world-wide, and this will sustain the continuing growth in the market for MM PIB”, said Dr Hartmann Leube, Head of Strategic Marketing and Product Development at Performance Chemicals for Automotive and Oil Industry at BASF.
