Life science plant selects Robolux valves

The Robolux range of multi-port process valves from Bürkert Fluid Control Systems has been selected for use at B Braun’s new life science plant in Melsungen, Germany. The plant, which produces clinical nutrition products such as amino acid and carbohydrate solutions and fat emulsions, required process valves and interfaces featuring a low internal volume.

Bürkert developed models for the valve interfaces, which were visualised and presented in 3D PDF files. The project, which began in 2009, is now in its final phase.

The Robolux valve technology has provided a solution that satisfies demanding criteria in hygienic processing, according to Bürkert. The key benefits of product application include the Robolux valve design, which has two independent process switching functions that can be achieved with one membrane, reducing installation requirements, eliminating T-adapters and minimising the number of valves and membranes required. And the multi-port membrane valves make it possible to design complex and compact systems that require little installation space, minimal internal volume and practically no dead flow zone. Cleaning and changeover of the interfaces for the manufacture of other products is said to be easy and quick.
