High demand for electric actuators for district cooling applications is reported by SIPOS Aktorik, particularly from the Saudi region. Advantages of the company’s innovative variable speed actuation technology for DC installations includes robustness, flexibility, accuracy and, importantly, prevention of the damaging effect of water hammer in pipelines. A new order to supply actuators for motorized valves in an Aramo development comes by way of a project headed by Saudi Tabreed. It incorporates a district cooling system to cool all Saudi Aramco buildings in the Dhahran area. A centralized plant with cooling capacity of 27,000 tons of refrigeration, which is designed, managed and maintained by Saudi Tabreed, will supply chilled water to the buildings. As approximately half the electrical energy is required to run a DC system compared to traditional cooling solutions, environmental benefits and cost savings are seen by SIPOS as a key contributor to the growth of this market. User advantages include enhanced comfort, reliability and convenience.
