Emerson wins China pipeline contract

Emerson Process Management has been awarded an approximate USD 3.5 million contract to furnish valve actuators and Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD) for the West to East Gas Transmission Pipeline Project (WEPP) in China. This 3900-km natural gas pipeline stretches from Lannan at the Tarim basin of XinJiang province in the West of China, to Shanghai in the East of China. The project is a venture of PetroChina (55% ownership), with support from Shell, Gazprom (Russia) and ExxonMobil (each with 15% ownership). Emerson has won the tender to supply 231 Shafer Rotary Vane gas/hydraulic actuators to operate large diameter 40-inch ball valves on the main trunkline for linebreak protection (ESD), controlled by LineGuard-2100 electronic control systems, and smaller diameter ball valves (16–36”) at the compressor stations, pigging station and distribution station, operated by two-way remote control with ESD.
